New Study Finds 20.7% Increase in Science Knowledge from Use of Penda Learning Platform

Research Presented at International STEM Education Conference in Thailand

August 5, 2025 – {Loveland, CO}

A new peer-reviewed study presented at the 10th Annual iSTEM-ED 2025 Conference in Thailand reveals that students using the Penda Learning platform experienced a 20.7% increase in science knowledge compared to a control group, confirming the platform’s effectiveness in improving science outcomes across diverse student populations.

The study, titled “Science Achievement Gains from a Computer-Based Learning Platform: A Multi-Site Quasi-Experimental Study,” was conducted by Steve Miller, Ph.D., and evaluated science achievement across 46 schools using the NWEA Science MAP assessment. The research provides compelling evidence that integrating digital, standards-aligned, student-centered tools like Penda Learning can significantly enhance science education.

“Penda Learning is more than just a technology solution—it’s a meaningful, measurable way to address the long-standing gap in science instruction time and achievement,” said Dr. Miller. “These findings show that students who have access to high-quality, interactive science content can accelerate their learning in ways that are both statistically and educationally significant.”

At a time when the demand for science literacy and STEM-ready graduates continues to rise, this study reinforces the critical need for innovative tools in K–12 classrooms that support equitable, high-impact science learning.

“We are incredibly proud to see Dr. Miller’s research recognized at an international level,” said Brad Baird, President and CEO of Penda Learning. “This study validates what educators tell us every day: Penda is helping students not only engage with science but achieve at higher levels.”

Penda Science combines high-quality science activities and assessments with cutting-edge gamification to help all students excel. Its hand-crafted content is aligned to NGSS performance expectations, as well as Texas TEKS and Florida SASS, providing engaging, phenomena-based, three-dimensional learning experiences that transform science outcomes for grades 3 through high school.
